30 in 30: Day 24 – Channel your energy

Have you ever had someone tell you to write it out?

Even if you are feeling something that doesn’t seem to fit with what you are working, you should always try to find a way to channel that energy and throw it into your project.

This doesn’t always mean that your characters or your piece has to match the emotions you are feeling. Sometimes you  need to turn those emotions into motivation and write them out. Turn that stress and frustration into a beautifully creative piece. Use boredom as a time to throw your imagination into emergency boot camp.

 

So take whatever you are feeling and channel it. If you need to, time yourself to up the challenge factor.

 

Try to have some fun with this.

30 in 30: Day 19 – Backstory

Create some back story that doesn’t already exist in your writing. Pick a character you haven’t talked about much. Pick a topic you haven’t covered. Build up to what is already there.

30 in 30: Day 15 – Halftime Show

Let’s throw in some lights and pyrotechnics. It is time for the halftime show. Feel free to insert a wardrobe malfunction, wave your lighter, shake you booty, or cause a massive power outage. Just do something exciting right now with your writing. Everyone’s idea of exciting is different so that is all the help I can give you.

30 in 30: Day Four – So what’s the problem?

Now is your time to create the conflict in your piece. There might be one big conflict or several small ones. It can be external or internal. Play with it. Use it to build your piece. Get creative.

So yesterday you created your character and tried to sell them.

Today… let’s be realistic. No one is perfect, even in fiction. So no matter what form you are writing in we need to face flaws.

Take some time to be honest about the flaws of your character. These flaws are what makes your character realistic and gives them depth.

Go ahead. Get creative.

30 in 30 : Day One – Where to begin?

Let’s get a little different with this 30 day challenge. At the end, wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a collection or an almost finished something? If you aren’t writing a novel you could put together a collection of short stories, poems or essays. Whatever you decide to do make sure you are really stretching your creativity.

So… it is day one. Where shall we begin?

I like to begin with a character. Create a scene or a poem that describes your fictional (or real) character. Consider this the first impression that you WANT your readers to get. Play up all the highlights. You are basically selling your character to the reader.
