It is that time again!!!
NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH
50,000 words in 30 days!!!!
So, before you start coming up with excuses I should give you a pep talk.
I am posting writing prompts that can be used for short stories, poems, essays, or prompts to keep your novel moving along.
So…
GET TO WRITING!!!
Take a moment and think about where you were on 9/11.
Even if you don’t want to remember the horror of that day, still think about where you were in life.
What were you doing?
Who were you with?
How did you feel?
Now run with it. Write a non-fiction or memoir piece about that day. Write a fiction piece using what you remember about yourself, taking the truth and spinning it. Write a poem about what you saw, heard, and/or felt.
Just write!
In the US, we are celebrating our Declaration of Independence… the moment when this country decided to stand on its own two feet.
What does independence mean for you? When is your Independence day?
Take some time to write out your thoughts… in the format most comfortable to you.
a (1) : not subject to control by others : self-governing (2) :not affiliated with a larger controlling unit <an independentbookstore>
b (1) : not requiring or relying on something else : not contingent <an independent conclusion> (2) : not looking to others for one’s opinions or for guidance in conduct (3) : not bound by or committed to a political party
c (1) : not requiring or relying on others (as for care or livelihood) <independent of her parents> (2) : being enough to free one from the necessity of working for a living <a person of independent means>
d : showing a desire for freedom <an independent manner>
My track coach said you don’t slow up until the finish line is behind you.
So I clocked in 53,952 words and finished at 4pm today.
The big thing for me is that I set a goal and I saw it through. I am so motivated right now to keep writing. I am thinking of another goal to set. I mean, I know I can do it now so I should keep at it.
Isn’t that how it works?
I know there is now editing and then doing my own layout work… I am my own worst customer… but let me celebrate this moment right now.
There doesn’t have to be a worldwide movement for you to challenge yourself. You don’t have to write a novel.
Set a goal.
Give yourself a time frame.
Work hard to meet it.
And most of all… remember to surprise yourself!!!
In honor of the end of the month… write first about setting goals… then write about the feeling you get when you reach them.
Happy Writing!
Write in a form you typically do not write in. Step out of your comfort zone. If you write long epic poems, pen your thoughts in a haiku. If you write fiction, write a short memoir piece. If you write non-fiction, exercise your imagination in a short story.
Need a topic: pigs flying
(This topic in honor of the fact that I may actually finish a novella during nanowrimo!)
Happy Writing!
Explain/describe an emotion without using the name of the emotion. For example if you are describing anger, you would find every way you can describe it with out using the words anger or angry.
Happy Writing!
Write your interpretation of one or all of the seven deadly sins.
Happy Writing!
Write about the change in seasons. I am thinking zodiac… but you can take it wherever you want!
Happy Writing!
